The Białcanie ensemble from Białka Tatrzańska was founded in 1994, developing from the then existing for a decade group Mali Białcanie. It brings together young people and adults from Białka and surrounding villages, giving them the opportunity to cultivate their native traditions and improve their presentation of Podhale folklore.

The ensemble’s artistic output is very rich and one of its main achievements was winning the Golden Ciupaga (Golden “Axe”) in 2014 in the traditional category for the program “Highland Wedding” at the International Festival of the Highland Folklore in Zakopane. The ensemble can also boast the Prize of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage won at the Bydgoszcz Musical Impressions in 2012 and numerous successes, especially in the group singing category.

In the course of more than 30 years of its existence, the ensemble has visited many stages at home and abroad, having been hosted, among others, in the USA, Dubai, Bulgaria, Albania, Turkey, Greece or Spain. On stage, it presents not only traditional singing and dancing, but also various rituals and customs of the Podhale region.

The director and instructor of the ensemble is Janina Paluch-Wacław.
