The “Klimki” band was established in 1952 at the Zakopane “Cepelia”. In 1957, after the reactivation of the Highlanders’ Association, it came under its protection and has been active with the Association ever since. The group brings together young people and adults for whom highland culture, authentic singing, dancing, music and dialect are very dear to their hearts. For more than half a century it has nurtured traditions that are still alive in the Podhale region. The group’s artistic output includes programs and performances based on Podhale traditions, such as: In the hall, Zaloty (courting), Highland Wedding, Nativity play. The members of the ensemble acted as actors in plays written by Julian Reimschussel and in the 1960’s and 1990’s they developed the only highland opera at the time, entitled Jadwisia spod regli, which entered the canon of highland art. The ensemble actively participates in the life of the City of Zakopane, preparing the artistic setting of events organized by the City. For several years, it has also honored the setting of the Holy Mass in the Old Church on Pęksowy Brzyzek and the European Fair of Regional Products. The wide educational activities of the Ensemble also include lessons about the Podhale region. “Klimki” participate in many reviews and competitions, often winning major prizes and often give concerts for charity. Members of the band have also had the opportunity to visit beautiful parts of Poland and Europe and in the 1970’s they gave concerts in North America. The band’s manager is Zofia Kubiniec-Stanuch.
