The Regional Ensemble “Śwarni” was founded in 1973, with its first performance taking place in 1974. The ensemble was established at the Nowy Targ branch of the Podhale Association. For a period of time, it operated as a group affiliated with both the Podhale Association and the Municipal Cultural Centre in Nowy Targ. Since 2004, it has functioned as the Association of the Regional Ensemble “Śwarni”.
From the very beginning, the ensemble’s headquarters have been located at the Municipal Cultural Centre in Nowy Targ. The members of “Śwarni” come from various villages of the Podhale region, while those living in Nowy Targ have their roots in the rocky Podhale highlands. “Śwarni” has been active continuously for 53 years.
Over several decades of its activity, around one thousand young people have danced and performed with the ensemble. The composition of the group changes almost completely on average every five years, ensuring the continuation and renewal of the tradition across generations.
